Vector of Shinto Shrine in Nara, Japan. Colors were taken from original photo. Lumix dx100 photoshop cs3 primarily with various lasso tools, warp tool, and pen tool. bottom right vectors are not brushes but original fills and strokes by me. clouds are stock brushes. Comments welcome
Update: thanks to a very intelligent comment, i've deleted everything that i believe detracts from the vector itself and left the background in order to at least ground the figure a little. Also in keeping with the Japanese theme, i've added the ubiquitous red hanko (stamp) which i often use in non-digital artwork as well as in real life. 2 cookies if you know what it means! thanks for the great comments and support!!!!
Wow, this is a really hip piece, and very designy. Ive been hoping to see something like this all day. The repeating patterns both unify and abstract the shrine, making it very visually interesting to look at. I also like that if you look closely at the planks and beams, they have little irregularities to them. The composition is well balanced for the most part, and the color choices add a lot of excitement and personality to this piece. It must have been a really nice picture.
Im kind of interested in how the shadowed parts of the shrine would look if you limited it to a single color, such as having just dark red or purple. Actually, the purple could really add a kick to the piece, though the dark red would compliment the background more.
The clouds in the upper right corner are very distracting, they dont match the clean-lined style youve established, and arent doing anything for this piece right now. The random shapes in the lower right, while stylish, makes me think UFO more than Shinto. If youre not attached to them, take them out and stick some stylized clouds in there. If you are attached to them, try reducing them in size slightly.
thank you so much for your comment! i've rethought everything and have updated the print with the changes in the description. thanks for the detailed support! totally made my day!!!
